New Hairstyle Attempt! --> Bantu Knot Out (and Extras!)

"People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within."
- Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
Hey lovelies!
Although I have been swamped with studying for finals and preparing for presentations, I somehow found the time to look up a natural hairstyles. During my search, I found a lot of great styles on Curly Nikki . I am sooo excited to attempt to try some of them! Check it out when you get a chance!

Ok, so I attempted to do a bantu knot out today and the results were FABULOUS!!! Here's what I did:

1.) First, I deep conditioned my hair with Jane Carter's Nutrient Replenishing Conditioner.

2.) I detangled then I used a special leave-in conditioner concoction that contained: Honey, Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Jojoba Oil, Vitamin E Oil, and hot water. It makes my hair feel so soft!

4.) I parted my hair into 4 sections and held each section with an ouchless hair tie.

5.) Working with one section at a time, I made small parts and began to two strand twist the hair. Afterwards, I wrapped the twist into a ball and tucked the loose end of the twist into the ball.

6.) Let air dry...however, I blow dried mine (I was crunched for time).

7.) Beautiful curls!

Before I head out, I just want to mention that there are a few artists that are really making some powerful music:
Raheem Devaughn - "Bulletproof"

Sade - "Soldier of Love"

Chrisette Michele - "Blame it on Me"

Peace,

Weight Loss Goal For 2010

"Truth is so great a perfection, that if God would render Himself visible to men, He would choose light for His body and truth for His soul" -Pythagoras

I always considered myself to be thick and not necessarily big or fat. In high school, I weighed a solid 150 lbs. After I came to college, I started to gain weight however, I didn't really notice until I tried on my prom dress and realized that it no long fit me. Then I became so ashamed that I stopped weighing myself altogether so that I wouldn't feel bad about my weight gain.

As I continued to gain more weight, I began to feel more and more self-conscience about myself. I pretty much saw myself as a fat blob and started to believe that no one would want me because I was ugly and fat. Relationships didn't seem to work out for me and I ALWAYS attributed the failure of them to something that was wrong with me. My self-esteem dropped more and more and I started to seek acceptance by giving myself to pretty much any guy that showed the slightest interest in me. This pretty much continued for quite some time.

I tried unsuccessfully to start to workout and lose some weight, but I ALWAYS lost motivation and would begin to eat unhealthily again.

::Skip ahead to last month::

I recently had surgery to have my appendix removed and was scheduled for a post-op appointment. Before I saw the doctor, the nurse weighed me and told me that I was 195 lbs. I was completely shocked! I had no idea that I had gained so much weight. I typically wore/wear L-XL sized clothes so didn't notice how much I had gained. That day I went online and checked my Body Mass Index (BMI) to determine how healthy/unhealthy I am...I found out that I am considered to be obese. That really freaked me out! Since I am 5'7", my healthy weight is somewhere around 141 lbs.

After finding out all of this information, I decided that I want to lose weight. So my goal for this time next year, is to get down to my healthy weight of 141lbs. I plan to do this the healthy and correct way by dieting and exercising. After watching one VERY inspirational video on YouTube (link is below), I know and BELIEVE that it is possible :) The video is from a user named BeautifulBrwnBabyDol. She is very inspirational on so many levels! She talks about women and building confidence, God, rocking natural hair and losing and keeping off over 90 lbs! She is simply remarkable!

Here is the weight loss video. I watch this EVERY morning for inspiration to do my workouts!
